In "The Book of Revelation" Ionnes (Yohannan) of Patmos had Jesus proclaim, "I am Alpha and Omega," the 1st and last letters of the Ionic Greek alphabet. The statement has been interpreted to mean that he has always existed, Curiously, though the letters were Greek, the letters were used in in Western art far more than in eastern Orthodox contexts.
